A Data Warehouse (DW) is simply an integrated consolidation of data
from a variety of sources that is specially designed to support strategic and tactical
decision making. The main objective of a Data Warehouse is to provide an
integrated environment and coherent picture of the
business at a point in time.
The Data Warehouse can be the source of data for one or more Data Marts.
Data from the Data Warehouse can be made available to decision
makers via a variety of "front-end" application systems and Data Warehousing tools such as OLAP
tools for online analytics and Data Mining tools.
